By Alejandro Glatt
I'm Alejandro Glatt — a third-generation Ashkenazi Jewish Mexican artist and the creator of GLATT KOSHER POP ART, a contemporary art concept blending Jewish identity, pop culture, spirituality, resilience, and storytelling.
Growing up, people constantly joked about my last name: "Are you Glatt Kosher?" After hearing it my whole life, I decided to transform that joke into something meaningful. Instead of opening a kosher restaurant, I created kosher art.
At 18, I lived in Israel — an experience that changed my life and deepened my connection to Judaism. Years later, on October 6th, 2023, I opened an exhibition in Israel. The next morning, October 7th, the war began. Being physically there in that moment transformed me forever.
I returned to Mexico and fully dedicated my work to Jewish storytelling, resilience, pride, and identity through contemporary art. Since then, my work has been exhibited internationally — including projects connected to the Louvre Museum in Paris, Miami Art Basel Week, the Jerusalem Biennale, and exhibitions across New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, and Mexico City.
In 2024 I became the first Mexican Jewish artist to send art to the Moon, through the Artemis / Lunaprise mission.
As my work became more visible, I also experienced antisemitic attacks online and in person for openly expressing my Jewish identity and support for Israel. Rather than hiding, those experiences pushed me to create Jewish art even more publicly and proudly.
Today, through GLATT KOSHER POP ART, I create collectible artworks, mezuzahs, installations, and cultural experiences that celebrate Jewish resilience, memory, spirituality, and contemporary identity.
For me, Jewish art is not only about religion or history. It is about survival. Pride. Emotion. Community. Memory. And the freedom to remain visibly Jewish in today's world.
